Overview of the didactic program

First Year

Knowing how to process signals means knowing how to sense, capture and analyze what is going on around us (in terms of sounds, images, vibrations, etc.). It also means generating a virtual reality that we can perceive through advanced imaging technologies, wavefield synthesis, etc. In order to teach how to master the art of audio and acoustics signal processing, the masters program of Computer Engineering - Musical Acoustics, offers 25 credits specifically designed for this very purpose, with courses on MultiMedia Signal Processing, Sound Analysis, Synthesis and Processing, and Computer Music.

Second Year

In the second year we will dive into all aspects of advanced and applied acoustics. We will begin with the course of Vibroacoustics, which will cover theory and applications of vibrational analysis and modeling in all sorts of structures, from buildings to machines to musical instruments. This course will also cover aspects of control and cancellation of undesired vibrations.
In the course of Room acoustics the student will learn about acoustic propagation in environments and enclosures of all sorts, and learn the tools of the trade for noise control and containment; achieving acoustic comfort and designing specialized listening spaces.
With the course of Musical acoustics we will plunge into the world of musical instruments, which represent the finest form of balance between control of vibrational and acoustic properties of a mechanical or fluid-dynamical structure.
